Recommended Age Appropriate Styles
This applies to all ages:
No tight ponytails or braids!
Do not use rubber bands!
Comb the hair beginning at the ends and work your way to the roots!
Birth to 1 year - This is a great time to teach your baby that he/ she can trust you to groom their hair. Let them know that the gentle strokes against their scalp are trusting and loving touches.
No Relaxers or Texturizes
No Heat
No Hair Extensions
No small or large hair barrettes (accidents happen like falling or choking)
Do not force, pull, and tug the hair to style it. You'll have plenty of time after the baby gets older to achieve the desired style.
Avoid harsh chemicals that may dry the babies hair.
Try to use natural ingredients to care for your babies hair.
Do use loose fitting headbands. Be creative. Make your own, buy plain headbands and add a bow.
Ages 2 to 5 - Give the little person a doll to groom while you groom their hair. Show them how you comb and style their hair.

No Intricate hairstyles that will take a long time to achieve.
(My rule of thumb is when styling the hair of younger children is: When the movie is over then the styling process should be as well.)
Ages 6 to 8 - Ask them how they would like their hair styled. Ask them to pick the beads, barrettes, or bows they would like to wear.

Ages 9 to 11 - Show them how to maintain their style.

Age 12 - and up - Let them express their creativity through their hair. If they choose to have their hair chemically altered please do your research so you can fully explain the benefits and repercussions of their choice.
Children at this age are more capable of following a hair care maintenance rountine on their own. If you choose to relax your child's hair please wait until they are able to help with the maintainence. Please have the chemical application applied by a licensed professional.
